Charkadio Cave is located about 2 km far, at the center of Tilos island. This is a very important cave discovered in 1971 by the geologist and speleologist Nikolaos Simeonides. Further excavations brought into light Neolithic items, such as stone hunting tools and pieces of pottery.
The most impressive thing is that in Charkadio Cave fossils of animals have been found, including turtles, deer, and the special dwarf elephants. Scientists believe that these dwarf elephants were living on the island 45,000 years ago and that they disappeared about 4,000 years ago.
These discoveries help scientists to define the geological history of Tilos. As a proof of the importance of this cave, it should be mentioned that the Physiographic Museum of Vienna, one of the biggest in Europe, has a special section dedicated to the dwarf elephants of Tilos.
She was an ancient Greek poet. She is best known for her long poem The Distaff, a 300-line hexameter lament for her childhood friend Baucis, who had died shortly after her marriage. A large fragment of this poem was discovered in 1928 at Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. Along with The Distaff, three epigrams ascribed to Irinna are known, preserved in the Greek Anthology.
Alia, sister of Helios , was the mother of Tilos The myth says that when Alia fell ill, Tilos came to this island to gather herbs to cure her. Once she recovered, he built a temple here in honor of the god Apollo.

Helios was the Titan god of the sun, a guardian of oaths, and the god of sight. He dwelt in a golden palace in the River Okeanos (Oceanus) at the far ends of the earth from which he emerged each dawn, crowned with the aureole of the sun, driving a chariot drawn by four winged steeds. When he reached the the land of the Hesperides in the far West he descended into a golden cup which bore him through the northern streams of Okeanos back to his rising place in the East.
Eristos is one of the few beaches in Tilos which can be easily accessed. This tranquil beach is located 3 km south of Megallo Chorio, the capital of the island and get there you need to follow a track road from the capital. Tourist facilities are not available in Eristos so you will have the chance to spend some time in total isolation around this beautiful environment. The crystal waters are the best attraction of Eristos.
